At least three women are dead and dozens more injured after a Greyhound bus crashed into a caravan on the Bruce Highway at Gumlu, south of Townville. The bus was carrying 33 passengers.

Emergency services arrived at the crash site shortly after 11 in the morning. A four-wheel drive towing a caravan was travelling south on the Bruce Highway when it collided with a bus travelling north carrying 33 people, including children.

The speed limit in the accident zone is 100 kilometres per hour. Among the 31 people assessed by paramedics, 24 suffered minor injuries, including the pair in the car towing the caravan. The other seven had life-threatening injuries. Three women have died, and four people have been taken to hospital, with one airlifted due to the severity of their injuries.

Police are currently investigating the cause of the crash, which remains unclear. They have reminded drivers to exercise extra caution during the busy school holiday period.
