The landmark case stems from charges brought against Trump by special counsel Jack Smith for his alleged involvement in attempts to overturn the 2020 election results. Monday's ruling means that case remains on hold. We get to have protections for presidents who are doing things while they are in office so that they don't come out and get targeted and criminally and civilly sued. And it's likely the same story for the two other cases still pending, one in federal court related to his retention of classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago home, and the other in state court, another election conspiracy case brought by prosecutors in Fulton County, Georgia. There still needs to be a determination of whether Trump's actions were official public acts versus private acts.
