The Governor-General of Australia acts as the King’s representative and serves as the Commander-in-Chief of the Australian Defence Force. The role also includes ceremonial functions, community duties, and initiating the process for federal elections.

While Mostyn is widely respected, some criticism has arisen, particularly regarding her past support for changing the date of Australia Day and transitioning to a republic.
