The banner, which initially displayed the words "I heart Nigel" below a photo of a smiling Putin giving a thumbs up, was lowered behind Farage as he spoke.

The campaign group "Led by Donkeys" claimed responsibility for the prank. The stunt referenced remarks made by Farage weeks earlier, in which he suggested that the Russian invasion of Ukraine was provoked by the expansion of the European Union.
