Google's case, brought forth by the Department of Justice, has already reached a phase where the court is determining suitable remedies following a guilty verdict regarding its dominance in the Internet search market. The Department of Justice is urging the court to consider various actions including the divestiture of Google’s Chrome browser, sharing of Google search data with competitors, and allowing publishers to opt out of content use for AI training.

Meta, on the other hand, is still navigating allegations from the Federal Trade Commission. There is a noted distinction in the strategies adopted by these companies' leaders, with Mark Zuckerberg having sought intervention from the Trump administration for Meta's case, unlike Sundar Pichai for Google's ongoing situation. The court proceedings will involve presentations from both sides as Google contests the proposed remedies and raises concerns about potential risks to privacy and national security. 

Gail Slater of the DOJ's antitrust division emphasized the significance of addressing Google's conduct as it could have broad implications on the control of Internet and emerging technologies like artificial intelligence in the future. Google is expected to argue against these proposals, labeling them as excessive and potentially harmful.

We're seeing something astonishing in court here today, two of the biggest and most innovative companies in American history, companies with a combined market capitalization of more than $3 trillion in the same courthouse on the same day fighting to stave off U.S. government efforts to break them up. But Meta and Google are in very different phases of the antitrust process right now. Meta, remember, is still defending itself against allegations by the Federal Trade Commission. But Google has already been found guilty in a case that was brought by the Department of Justice over its role in the Internet search market. And today is the first part of the so-called remedy phase, when the court weighs in, weighs what kind of punishment to mete out to the company. And another big difference here, while Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg lobbied Trump to intervene in the Meta case, Google's Sundar Pichai does not appear to have done the same thing. So in the Google case, we're going to see both sides lay out their proposed remedies or punishments for Google's behavior. The DOJ is requesting the court to force Google to divest the Chrome browser, share Google search data with competitors, allow publishers to opt out of having materials used for A.I. training, and some other items. Gail Slater, the head of the DOJ's antitrust division, argued this morning the case is about the future. If Google's conduct is not remedied, it will control much of the Internet for the next decade, and not just in Internet search, but in new technologies like artificial intelligence. Now expect Google to argue these proposals are too extreme and risk damaging America's privacy and national security, guys. Back over to you.
