Accused of exploiting his authority, Coleman, 55, has been charged with 10 offenses, which include six counts of sexually touching the complainant without consent and three counts of sexual intercourse without consent. These incidents are said to have taken place over a three-month period, involving inappropriate conduct in patrol cars and within a Sydney police station. 

The prosecution argues that Coleman breached his professional and ethical boundaries by soliciting sex and sexual favors from the victim, challenging the trust inherent in his position as a police officer. Despite the victim's attempts to maintain a professional relationship, it is alleged that Coleman manipulated his authority to coerce her, instilling fear that she could not freely leave his presence due to his law enforcement status. 

Further evidence brought forward by the prosecution includes messages purportedly from Coleman, with one such message offering the complainant $700 for two hours—a financial transaction proposal for sexual acts. Coleman acknowledges the exchange of messages but firmly denies any non-consensual contact with the complainant. The trial continues as the jury deliberates on the weight of the accusations and the evidence presented.

The then 55-year-old former detective is accused of preying on a 19-year-old woman whose case he'd been assigned only for her to be allegedly taken advantage of in patrol cars and inside a Sydney police station. Coleman has pleaded not guilty to 10 charges, including six counts of sexually touching the complainant without her consent and three counts of sexual intercourse without her consent, offences which allegedly occurred over a three-month period. A jury has heard it is the Crown case that the accused started to ask her for sex and sexual favours. She told him that he was a police officer and that they needed to keep it professional. The Crown will argue that the accused abused his position of trust and authority, telling the jury they expect the complainant will say that during an alleged incident in a patrol car she didn't feel that she could leave because the accused was a police officer. The prosecution also says messages have been recovered, including one the accused allegedly sent on Snapchat saying, here is the final offer, $700 for two hours, $350 per hour, much more than what I was prepared to pay, but you have me intrigued. Coleman doesn't deny there were messages, but he does deny ever touching the complainant without her consent. Alice Hogg for 10 News First.
